Running for a seat on the Cherokee Village Suburban Improvement District board has given me the chance to hear so many good ideas from our property owners, and this one about offering some type of Junior Golf Card membership on our two golf courses, I believe is a very good one. I respect the perspective to raise an issue that genuinely benefits Cherokee Village families. That kind of community-minded thinking is exactly what helps our SID grow stronger and more inclusive.
I agree that encouraging middle and high school students to get involved in golf is a smart investment in our community’s future. Golf teaches patience, discipline, and sportsmanship, and it’s one of the activities that young people can enjoy for a lifetime. If we want to sustain our courses for future generations, one of those on the list of ways to do so is that we need to make the game appealing and accessible to those younger players.
I would strongly support exploring ways to create affordable student memberships or better family-friendly options, and fee structures for parents or guardians who may not play golf themselves but want to support their children’s participation. Doing so could help both our youth programs and the long-term health of our golf facilities.
What I call a "junior golf card" is a membership or pass offered by golf courses that provides young players (typically aged 18 or younger) with affordable and increased access to golf facilities. The primary goal of these programs is to introduce kids to the game, eliminate financial barriers, and foster long-term engagement with the sport.
