Didn't realise until three quarters of the way into Dawnguard that you had the option to turn your own spouse into a vampire. There didn't seem (at least I couldn't find) much game play on this particular side quest on youtube, so here it is.
For those wondering why they are unable to start this quest, I've stuck in a link to the uesp website. It provides a list of marriage candidates who CAN'T be turned into a vampire. http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:The_Gift
