"A Time Gone By" started as a poem that I wrote in 2001 when I working in a school that was having a Poetry Jam. I bet one of my students I could write a poem in a couple of hours before the show and it would be the best one there. Just because I wanted to be different, I wrote the saddest poem I could come up with.
I remember reading it to the audience who sat in stunned silence when I finished. People kept coming up to me afterwards to say how sorry they were for my loss. I struggled to tell them it wasn't real. I made it up. No one believed me. They thought it was too good and emotional to be made up.
So today I came up with a way to sing it as a song and wrote a refrain to go with it. It was the saddest poem ever. Now it's the saddest song ever. Big thanks to AI for the performance.
