Hi, everyone, I'm Evangeline right here at etrailer. Since every bike rack fits every vehicle differently, today, we're focusing in on how the Benton LittleShift fits on the 2022 Chevrolet Colorado. If you're looking for a quick and easy bike rack to toss onto your truck that has a good amount of functionality to it, stick around. This is a single bike rack. Meaning, this can carry one bike and is really popular for those that wanna go for a quick bike ride before or after work, or just have something ready to go when they want to hang out at the trails. This has a weight capacity of 80 pounds.
So if you have a heavy electric bike, this is gonna be a good option for you. And specifically for the Colorado, this will not interfere with lowering your tailgate. Not many bike racks have that as something to boast of, so that's really good for the Benton LittleShift. Your bike will be secured by your cradles, as well as two wheel straps and a wheel hook. So this is a very long strap ideal for flat tire bikes or mountain bikes, or still compatible with your road bikes.
Now, not every bike rack has both a rear and a front wheel strap, but this one does. So you do have that extra touch point there, so that it can handle those heavier bikes but also because of its unique wheel hook design. So you have that wheel hook, you'll see this on several premium racks, secures it by the front wheel if you want quick and easy or minimal frame contact. However, when you have kids' bikes or just alternate frame bikes, or like regular road bikes with a straight across frame, being able to secure your bike by the frame as well as an additional option is pretty cool. You have that versatility there if you need it.
Most people will secure this by their front wheel, though, and then when they're ready to take the bike off, they just bring that whole hook down. And then now, you could just grab the bike and go. Focusing back on the Colorado, what I do like to mention is because of the height of their hitch receiver on the Colorado, unless you have a lift on your truck, this is gonna be a very achievable thing to load and unload the bike because of the height and just simple form factor of the LittleShift. When your bike is not on a LittleShift and you're just driving around town, I do recommend folding that hook back in and even securing the hook underneath a cradle. That way, as you drive around, this doesn't shift.
Now, something to be mindful of is this does not add much length to the back of your truck, but it'll add something. So taking a measurement from the bumper to the end of the rack, I have it at around 19 and a half inches if you include this lever here. I currently have it tightened down with the etrailer anti-rattle collar, but this also has a pin and a clip, or rather a pin and a nut at the end that helps as an anti-rattle function, too. Now, I talked about that this doesn't sit too high up off the ground, but for a measurement, from the ground to the bottom of the raft, this is 18 and a half inches to where you have to lift your bike up at 21 inches. So what that means is, even with your heavier electric bikes, this is still a very achievable motion to get your bike go up and onto the rack. Sometimes, for those heavier e-bikes, I get one tire up and I swing the other one up onto the cradle. And I talked about truck bed or tailgate clearances. This is what it looks like if I lower a tailgate, bring it all the way down. You can see there's plenty of distance between the tailgate and the cradle. In fact, I have about three and a half inches of clearance. So if you're loading up your truck bed, hanging out on a tailgate, even with the weight resting on your tailgate, since there's so much space there, I'm not worried about making contact at all. And for those that have ladder racks or camper shells on their Colorado, a bonus perk of the LittleShift is that that metal platform is a stepping platform. So by utilizes on some trucks when I have a kayak up here, this helps me out with tying down that kayak or just giving me a spot to hang out, stand behind the truck. Having that stable platform that works as a hitch step is an awesome additional feature. Here at etrailer, the Benton LittleShift is a really popular single bike rack carrier. For those
