Leg 2, Day 9. Ireland West Camino [The Way of the Sun - Day 1]

The Way of the Sun (historically known in the Irish as Slighe Assail) day 1 (or stage 1) from Drogheda to the Hill of Slane as walked by Jeremy and joined by his father on March 20, 2025, as a part of restoring this ancient, Bronze Age pilgrimage route, as well as purportedly walked by St Patrick in the 5th century from the mouth of the Boyne River west to Croagh Patrick. This is also the beginning of Leg 2 (so day 9) of the Ireland West Camino.

We walked 13.8 miles, including to the top of the Hill of Slane, through the gorgeous Boyne Valley, passing Dowth, Newgrange, and Nowth amongst dozens of other Neolithic, Bronze Age, early Iron Age, or early Christian sites. Mature woodlands abound. Last 2.5 kilometers could use some work as it is along the side of a busy road. But worth it!
