Mamedyarov is a world class GM. He has played several games against Carlsen over the years. In the initial years, he had a very tough time against the World Champion, losing most of his games. However, recently he has started to strike back and he has beaten Carlsen several times. When they clashed against each other in the 10th round of the World Blitz Championships 2022, Mamedyarov equalized right out of the opening and then was even pressing.
