The Canadiens fell 4–3 in a shootout to the Pittsburgh Penguins in Pittsburgh. The night was historic for Penguins captain Sidney Crosby, who broke Mario Lemieux’s franchise all-time points record with a goal and an assist, helping Pittsburgh snap their eight-game winless skid.

Montreal played hard and got contributions from Ivan Demidov, Oliver Kapanen, and Noah Dobson, each recording multi-point games. Regulation ended tied, leading to overtime and then a shootout where Pittsburgh ultimately prevailed.
