Becker Knife And Tool BK7.

Which Becker BK7 do I think is better? Well, they both have positives and negatives, but in the long run, it is the Camillus version. It is the one that was initially conceived by Ethan Becker and made by the good folks at Camillus Cutlery in Camillus, NY. The tragedy in all this is that due to an inability to communicate with each other, the owners and workers of the factory forced it to shut down. This left Ethan out in the wind and luckily finding KaBar to fill the void. Everything about the old and new is identical, sans a few key points. First off, the blade grind of the old is much higher. I prefer that. It makes the big knife more of a chopper and slicer than expected. The other difference is the lack of a sharpenable swedge on the newer version, whereas the old one comes to you only a few file strokes away from being a full-blown military conflict-ready fighting knife. The only downside is if you are one of the guys who like to baton everything, the swedge will cut the heck out of your baton. Other than those two things, they are identical in construction and steel.

The last thing and I put more value on this one than most people would, is the lack of a stamped Name and Logo in the new one. I much prefer the beautifully executed, crisp, deep cold stamping of the name and logo on the old one. The old one even has the name of the knife. When KaBar did stamp their knives, they never put the actual name of the knife on it. Just BK7 on the opposite side of the blade. Whereas Camillus put the name of the knife, and 7 all next to the BK&T.

So, Etan and KaBar...if you are listening. Perhaps it would be cool if you went back to the old stamping. I know you probably could not achieve the old grinding due to the different belt grinding systems you have now, but the stamp would be awesome.
