We built our DIY new chicken coop build when we had spare time for under $1,000 in 2020. This is our first step we are taking to our next purchase which will be our own acreage to homestead, garden, run our business and just do the things we love doing outside of lawn care, landscaping and snow removal. So the price of wood right now is through the roof, we actually though about buying a prebuilt chicken coop. But they seemed cheap or outrageously overpriced. So we did the next best thing. We built it ourselves. We saved where we could and we bought rough exterior wood to save a bit more. We also used as few 2x4x8 as possible because they are $6 dollars a piece right now. You can save even more on your build by not purchasing wheels and hardware. I only did it to make it easier to move. I still have to add a hitch setup down the road. This is a quick how to build a chicken coop video with ideas to use on your own build.
