This episode focuses on the Hardiman House's kitchen and its images of abundance and its keepsakes of endearment. Dr. Hardiman explains how a gift of a casted iron stove set the design tone for the room and how her daughter created a stained glass hutch and faux brick siding walls to extend the aesthetic. She then shares the folk art, paintings, wall hangings, cravings, and story quilts celebrating Abundance that she collected from her travels to Cuba, Mexico, Ecuador, Haiti, Trinidad, Kenya, Jamaica, and South Africa. She ends with reflections on two ancestral keepsakes - her father shortwave radio and a baby dish from her grandfather’s store in Meridian Oklahoma.
