They spent over $360,000 trying to restore this historic Burle Marx-designed garden in Belo Horizonte, Brazil — but what’s left is a scene of total neglect.
Originally conceived in the 1940s and built in the 1970s, Praça Alberto Dalva Simão was meant to be a modernist masterpiece on the edge of Pampulha Lake. Instead, it has become a forgotten, vandalized, and filthy urban wasteland — full of trash, graffiti, broken structures, and human waste.
This video exposes the shocking condition of a space that once carried the signature of one of the greatest landscape architects in history. From promises of revitalization to failed maintenance and wasted public funds, this is the story of how decades of investment disappeared into decay.
📍 Location: Pampulha, Belo Horizonte, MG
📅 Year Created: 1945 (project) / 1973 (execution)
💸 Estimated Public Spending: Over R$2 million (~USD $360K)
🏛️ Designed by: Roberto Burle Marx
