This video shows my two year project to build a stacked (double) 55 gallon barrel rainwater collector. At the end of the video I run a comparison of time it takes to fill a watering can using this new double barrel vs the old single barrel rain collector. This project took so much time because I kept running into many difficulties primarily with how I was trying to join the barrels together using the threaded fittings that are part of the top lid of the barrels. The main reason this posed such a problem is that they are not actually flat (parallel) with the top lid so joining two together proved impossible for me. I tried using plastic fittings, then metal, then shortening the fittings when they wouldn't screw on all the way, welding them, and then basically gave up and just welded the barrels together around the rims where the metal was thicker. If I was going to make another one, I would skip directly to doing this and forget trying to connect them with fittings. Using a ball valve at the bottom is definitely the way to go and allows you to quickly turn on and off the flow of water.
