On April 3rd, 2011, the budding television network AMC debuted its’ newest scripted series The Killing, a serial crime drama that promised to stand out among the crop by devoting an entire season to the single murder.

Produced by 21st Century Television, the acclaimed pilot episode introduced us straight away to the senseless killing of a young high school student, and the ripples her death creates in the big city of Seattle, Washington. Serving as this ship’s captain is showrunner Veena Sud, who brings with her not just her years of experience from shows such as Cold Case, but as well as an arsenal of talented cinematographers, editors, actors, and writers to create a dark, brooding series that dares to give us a peek at the brutal, nihilistic truth of crime in the 21st century.

At the center of this series are homicide detectives Sarah Linden, played by the subtly but supremely talented Mireille Enos, and Stephen Holder, played by the sultry nuanced Joel Kinnaman, both deeply affected by not only the horrific crimes they investigate but by a lifetime of traumas of their own.
