Many believe air quality improvement efforts hinder economic growth, but experts disagree. Decades of global experience show that cleaner air accelerates progress. ‘In Europe, the ratio between the costs and benefits is 1 to 10. It means you are getting $10 per $1 invested. So, you know, the impact on the economy is positive and not negative’ explains Michal Krzyzanowski, Visiting Professor, Imperial College London, UK.
Cleaner technologies and lower emissions from traffic, industries, and brick kilns require upfront costs. However, the long-term benefits – better health, lower expenses, and climate gains – far outweigh those costs. Strategic investments can accelerate progress and benefit both economies and communities.
