As space human exploration evolves to ensure that astronauts remain safe, healthy, and productive on long-duration space missions to Mars, the harsh environment of Antarctica (degree of isolation and confinement) provides an extreme environment that parallels most closely long-duration human missions in space. S. Baatout went to Antarctica to monitor health changes in this extreme environment.
Space radiation is THE showstopper for missions to the Moon, to Mars and beyond. The key to the success of human exploration is protecting astronauts’ health. It is thus imperative to develop innovative ways to stimulate radiation resistance of astronauts. These are described in this presentation.
