In 2008 Saints Row 2 set itself apart from GTA IV with a wacky sense of humor, varied main missions and creative side content. But now in 2022 Is Saints Row 2 Still Great? (Saints Row 2 Review)

By the late 2000’s the urban sandbox genre was becoming more and more popular. The GTA Clone was on the rise, and even the first Saints Row 1 struggled to shake off the shadow of Rockstar's GTA 3D Trilogy. Developers soon realised that to stand out they needed to be different. They needed to innovate and create something new.

Saints Row 2 succeeds in setting itself apart from other sandbox games by expanding on everything from the first game and including a ton of varied content. Where GTA IV sometimes lacked variety, Saints Row 2 has variety in spades.

Following the release of the Saints Row Reboot I’m looking back at the old Saints Row Games to see how they hold up in 2022. Throughout this Saints Row 2 review, we’ll see how Saints Row 2 balanced the silliness and seriousness, how Volition expanded their sandbox to create new main missions and why I think the open world in Saints Row 2 deserves to go down in gaming history. At the end of this review, we’ll answer that final question: Is Saints Row 2 Still Great?
