CNBC Interview: Peter Zaffino on Investing in AI for Future Growth | AIG Investor Day 2025

Peter Zaffino, Chairman and CEO of AIG, and Dario Amodei, CEO of Anthropic, sat down with CNBC’s Sara Eisen to discuss the companies’ partnership and enterprise business growth.

Kicking off the discussion, Mr. Zaffino talked through the highlights of AIG’s first Investor Day in nearly ten years. Held on March 31, 2025, leaders such as Charlie Fry, Don Bailey, Jon Hancock, Claude Wade and Mr. Zaffino himself spoke on the company’s transformation.

During the CNBC interview, Mr. Zaffino outlined the journey AIG has taken to focus on improving underwriting and operational efficiency. He also touched on how doing so has made AIG flexible both financially and strategically, thus improving profitability and its overall outlook.

“We’re a steady earner. … We have a lot of momentum going into the future.”

During the event, the company also announced an expansion of its partnership with Anthropic, an artificial intelligence (AI) safety and research company. Mr. Amodei discussed AIG and Anthropic’s joint efforts in building AI models that deliver trustworthy and responsible results.

“We’ve worked really closely … to really make sure we deploy these models for valuable use cases,” Mr. Amodei shared. He continued by explaining, “We’re really starting to get to the core of their business. … Having the models do this [understanding data and business functions] in ways that are efficient but that are also safe and that people can trust.”

Mr. Zaffino further spoke on how Anthropic’s team has helped underwriters obtain quality insights from data in a fraction of the time, contributing to AIG’s larger goal of driving enterprise growth.

“Our investment has always been focused on driving growth enterprise end to end. Dario and Anthropic have been very helpful and instrumental in helping us think through how we do that.”

Mr. Zaffino also emphasized his and AIG’s belief that AI will continue to impact and be a part of the financial services industry. Regarding investment in AI, Mr. Zaffino discussed that while saving money on operations is important, it also comes down to setting a strategy that supports substantial growth. He explained that AIG has prioritized building an agile ecosystem that will adapt as technology evolves.
