Ganymede and Sefton LIFTED OUT & TRANSPORTED, FREE FROM THE LLANGOLLEN CANAL BREACH!

Today's the big day! That Ganymede & Sefton get lifted out of the Llangollen canal, as they have been floating now for almost a week, with no problems but, but there could be little leaks or issues that are unseen. So it's best to get them out of the water and inspected! The insurance companies of the boats will want them out, too, so they can pay out, accordingly, if needed.

Ganymede was towed to Grindley Brook locks. Sefton isn't down here yet, but will be towed down shortly. They will both be lifted out here, as the nearest place to get lifted out already set up is the ABC hirebase at Wrenbury, 5 miles down the canal and 9 locks! Not exactly ideal! They only really have a dry dock there too, which imagine, is all booked up, so really the nearest place to get lifted out is at Swanley Bridge marina, which is more like 10 miles and another 3 locks! But that would be if it was even possible, as currently its not, thanks to a lock being closed for winter stoppages for three months, so the only logical place to lift the boats out was here, where they have a big car park, just outside the top lock, which the manged to bring the 100 tonne crane down and the transport lorry.

Ganymede will be first to get lifted out and trailered away, using the same 100-tonne crane by Steve Foster that lifted us out. The haulage is, however, different, being Richard Lester, as these boats are not 70ft long like ours, so they don't have to have a longer trailer, like the one used for ours, or an escort van. Ganymede will then be taken to Aqueduct Marina and put on hard standing, where it can be assessed by a surveyor. So we're follow the careful lift process, which is in between a lock keeper's cottage and a mature tree, here at Grindley Brook, then we'll follow the haulage lorry all the way back to Aqueduct Marina, where it will then be taken off the lorry and put onto a trailer, towed by the tractor.

As for Sefton! Well, unfortunately i wouldn't have been able to film the whole process of rescuing Ganymede from the Llangollen canal, if I had to wait for Sefton to be lifted out, as due to the small space, they couldn't get the two lorries down there, that and Sefton is actually being taken to a secret location near Chester!
