I lost track of the series after 2, but 3 seems to pick up nicely and make slight improvments. The crazy hop is a nice extra, the controls are pretty tight and it's just as fun as it ever was.
I go through the crazy box type mode, not really aiming for any great results, before just trying out each of the cities. I mistakenly used other methods of transports over the cabs which had much worse controls.
