Wild Weather & Crazy Surf - Namakwa Challenge Episode 2

The #namakwachallenge is a WSL specialty event featuring 20 invited surfers in one of the most rugged locations in South Africa. With a R45k first prize on offer and the chance to push themselves in heavy conditions, the event saw many of SA's top chargers camping in the wild weather of the Northern Cape.

Surfers and crew had to batten down the hatches as a crazy storm hit over 2 days. This resulted in massive, wild conditions and there was some concern the event would not be able to finish. Round 2 went down in very wild conditions, followed by a perfect morning on the final day, to finish the event.

Event winner, Dale Staples, was pushed hard by Slade Prestwich and Koby Oberholzer from the South Coast. In 4th place was World Longboarding Champion, Steven Sawyer, who had a tough final, getting caught inside for over 20 minutes.

Headline Sponsor, Northern Cape Tourism want more surfers to come and explore the Namakwa coastline and the event is working with Protect the West Coast to ensure their footprint is light and they shed light on the mission to save the coastline from invasive and destructive mining.
