Materials needed:
One half-sheet of drawing paper (12"x18")
A set of colored pencils
Vinyl eraser
Arrange 5-10 objects on a white tablecloth. If you don't have a tablecloth, cover the table with a few sheets of white drawing paper. The objects should look like the aftermath of a party. There are many different kinds of parties: birthday party, NYE party, wedding reception, corporate event, 4th of July outdoor grill party, house party, tea and biscuits... The theme is up to you. You can arrange glasses, teacups, plates with half-eaten cake, cards, lighters, paper plates with half-eaten hamburgers, plastic cups, napkins or other objects. Make sure there is a window or a lamp with light coming from the side onto your objects. A daylight balanced light bulb will give you more colors to work with.
Draw the objects life-size or larger, which means that you will probably be drawing a close-up portion of your still life. Start by creating a very light gesture drawing, then fill in all the colors. Create shadows by mixing complementary colors. Eliminate all contours. Adjust detail, value, contrast, line (if there are any lines in your drawing), color temperature and intensity in order to create the illusion of depth. The depth cues handout is attached in the assignment for your reference.
