The Ocean | Audiotree From Nothing

Founded at the dawn of the millennium, The Ocean, helmed by guitarist Robin Staps, shows no sign of slowing down. Coming together around a shared vision of limitless sonic exploration and unrelenting heaviness, the Berlin-based post-metal juggernaut gained a formidable reputation worldwide within the post-rock, post-metal, progressive metal, and hardcore scenes by marrying mercilessly tight musicianship with postmodern atmospherics and badass riffing.

Since their conception, The Ocean’s oeuvre has been characterized by a distinct thoughtfulness and maturity. The collective's 2023 record 'Holocene' saw The Ocean add a closing chapter to their palaeontology-inspired album series ('Precambrian' (2007), 'Heliocentric' (2010), 'Anthropocentric' (2010), and 'Pelagial' (2013)), presenting a gear shift towards the electronic world while simultaneously redefining the definition of heaviness. It's this kind of innovation that has kept The Ocean at the vanguard of forward-thinking metal. With more than 20 years of experience under their belts, The Ocean consistently finds new ways to shake us to our core, inviting us to reconsider our lives from different angles and unexplored depths.

The Ocean's From Nothing performance is a dynamic celebration of the most recent incarnation of the collective’s lineup. Together, members Paul Seidel (drums, vocals), Robin Staps (guitar, vocals), Loïc Rossetti (vocals), David Ramis Åhfeldt (guitar), and Mattias Hägerstrand (bass) take us on an immersive journey through four songs from their albums 'Pelagial' (2007), 'Heliocentric' (2010), 'Phanerozoic I' (2018), and 'Holocene' (2023). Their performance pays homage to these talented musicians who, for the last decade, were the faces behind the live silhouettes of The Ocean. While The Ocean’s From Nothing performance signals the close of the collective's most recent chapter, at its heart, it honors the massive act’s past, present, and future.
