TUR(P/BT) are one of the most commonly performed procedures in the urology department. A majority of centres performing TUR(P/BT) use a larger-calibre endoscopic sheath (26Fr) especially for large glands / tumours.
Use of large calibre endoscope (26 Fr vs. 24 Fr) is found to be associated with a greater risk of bulbar urethral stricture following TUR procedures.
OTIS urethrotomy prior to performing TUR procedures may reduce incidence of urethral stricture according to some studies.
This video describes assembly and use of a OTIS urethrotome for urology trainee surgeons.
