This male Ruby-throated Hummingbird is undergoing rehabilitation after striking a window. Note the missing feathers around its neck. This is because it was given a dish of sugar water instead of offered a feeder. Once feathers become saturated with sugar water over and over again, the bird will lose those saturated feathers no matter how carefully you clean it.
