Double Stealth Camp! // Bike Touring Australia Ep. 81

We start the day at our wonderful stealth camp at Rolleston Racecourse (or showgrounds?) and spend the morning drinking coffee and watching planes take off from the nearby runway. Stealth camping can be precarious at times, but this camp was just perfect.

At this point, all there is to do is pedal. We spend the day making our way North past the Blackdown Tableland National Park all the way to Blackwater. A big push of 125km past active coal mines on a quiet road.

Once in Blackwater we manage to find another awesome spot for a stealth camp - verging on being an urban wild camp - and have a great night by the creek, surrounded by the sounds of tiny frogs croaking.

Blackwater is home to the Blackwater International Coal Centre. It was quite strange to find such a big tourist attraction in a tiny town like Blackwater - a town that doesn't have a great deal going on - but if it was going to be anywhere, it makes sense for it to be at Australia's Coal Capital.

The coal museum took a big chunk out of our day and we still had a few errands to run, which makes for a very short day. We follow the huge coal shipping trains for 20km and it isn't long before we're in the small settlement of Bluff.

D&B Cycling Australia is a video series documenting our time bicycle touring Australia; a bicycle tour led by our desire to seek out roadside attractions -- everything from the interesting and quirky, to the macabre and obscure.
We had initially planned on bike touring Australia as the first leg of an around the world bike tour, but the Covid-19 Pandemic that struck mid way through the trip forced us to change our plans and extend our Australian cycling adventure.
Thankfully Australia is a huge country with plenty to see, so we'll continue cycling around Australia until it's time to move on to the next adventure.
