Hey everyone! So, here's the story of one of the most extreme winter camping adventures I've ever had at Pangong Lake. We parked our car right by the lakeside overnight, and let me tell you, the cold was intense. If anyone's thinking of winter camping here, just a heads-up: it's definitely not for the faint-hearted!
I started the day by showing how the entire car was layered up and prepped for the night. Then I took a little walk to capture the views of this absolutely stunning salty lake. Pangong Lake is the world's highest saltwater lake, and the views were just incredible—like something out of a movie. It honestly felt like being in some European winter wonderland.
Later on, I tried to start the car again. It took a lot of effort, pouring water, using a degelator, and finally, after a long time, it started up. We grabbed breakfast at a small local dhaba run by a kind uncle, the only place open, and had some chai and parathas. From there, we continued along the lakeside, enjoying the gorgeous but very windy and empty villages. It felt like driving through a frozen, deserted landscape. The roads were covered in about a foot of snow in places, and at one point we had to do a bit of off-roading and even rescue the car with some sand.
As we continued, we reached closer to the Indo-China border area and eventually found a spot in Chushul to set up camp. Camping there was no joke—it was about -35°C with fierce winds. We managed to cook some ready-to-eat palak paneer, toasted some bread, had coffee, and wrapped up this hectic but amazing day.
