VAN LIFE BUILD: Insulation and Framing for our 2006 Retired Uhaul Box Truck

Installing insulation and furring strips into our van is a huge step towards our Uhaul box truck conversion. Chase’s non-negotiable in the van build is that he wants the van to be temperature controlled so that it never gets very hot. We grew up in Colorado, so we all like to sleep in a cold environment. Having insulation will allow us to better control the temperature within the van. Furthermore, we plan on being in Colorado for part of the winter, so it’s important that our van has the ability to retain heat so that we don’t freeze!!

The furring strips are key for our van life project because we will use them to attach our furniture and our cabinets so that nothing moves while we drive our #vanlife box truck. This is an extremely necessary part to a van conversion because you are traveling all the time and not staying in place. Things will move around unless they are attached to the actual van itself.

It is so nice that we were able to use the flat walls and ceiling of the box truck to our advantage. This allowed us to use flat XPS foam boards which not very many people can use in their build because typical van walls and ceilings are curved. The Converted Uhaul Box truck is really nice to have for situations like these!
