In this video, I carry out a chimney smoke test — and the results are very obvious.
Smoke is pouring not only from the top of the chimney, but also through the brickwork. That tells me the existing flue isn’t sealed and smoke is escaping where it shouldn’t.
While it might look worrying, this is exactly what a smoke test is designed to show. The chimney is being fitted with a liner, which will create a sealed flue and resolve the issue completely.
I talk through what the smoke test shows, why this happens in older chimneys, and how chimney liners fix the problem properly.
If you’ve got a stove, fireplace, or are planning work on a chimney, this is well worth understanding.
