He grew up in St. Andrew and attended prestigious schools like Wolmer's Boys' School and Hillel Academy. While initially drawn to sports like swimming and water polo (he played for the Jamaican national team), his passion for music ultimately led him to pursue a career in dancehall
The release of Dutty Rock in 2002 marked his international breakthrough. The album, which won a Grammy for Best Reggae Album, included the hit singles "Get Busy," "Gimme the Light," and "Baby Boy" with Beyoncé.
