From Barra, Ireland and Newfoundland. This type of music goes under many names, e.g liliting, diddling, jigging, chin music or cheek music, puirt a beul (mouth music) reel à bouche, and cainntearachd (chanting)
"The women of Barra used to sing dance music which would imitate pipe music and they were marvellously good at it. It was Mary, daughter of Big Ewen (Mary Morrison) was the first I heard on tape and I couldn't believe that the human voice could make the sounds that she was produce" Morag MacLeod , School of Scottish Studies.
The lilting is from the Boys of the Lough LP "Good friends, Good music" and the last track is from a Newfoundland compilation "Close to the floor" and features Mrs. Nellie Musseau of Mouse Island, NL.
