The Class 800 IET (InterCity Express Train) is running from London Paddington to Swansea and Carmarthen on a GWR (Great Western Railway) service. This train will split in Swansea with one set terminating and the other going to Carmarthen.

The IET was built by Hitachi. This train is an Electro-Diesel Multiple Unit, as it is using Diesel on the unelectrified railway through Bridgend to Swansea. This train was running on Electric power on the Line from London Paddington to Cardiff Central where the 25 kV AC Overhead Electrification runs on the Great Western Main Line and South Wales Main Line. The train uses the raised Pantograph and Transformers rectify the High Voltage to power the Electric Motors on the train. The South Wales Main Line from Cardiff Central to Swansea is not yet Electrified as the scheme was Cancelled by the previous Government as was the section from Didcot Parkway to Oxford.
The Class 197 is a DMU (Diesel Multiple Unit) and is run by TFW (Trafnidiaeth Cymru/Transport for Wales) and the train is made in Newport by CAF (Construcciones y Auxiliar de Ferrocarriles), Made in Wales which is in Welsh, "Gwneud yng nghymru". The CAF Civity is a family of regional passenger trains which is manufactured by Spanish rolling stock manufacturer Construcciones y Auxiliar de Ferrocarriles.
This service is running from Maesteg to Ebbw Vale Town.

These Class 197s trains run on the Wales and Borders network.
The trains are running on Network Rail metals.
Bridgend railway station was built by the South Wales Railway, opened on 18th June 1850, and both the main platform building and the 1877 pedestrian bridge are Grade II listed. The station was designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel. The station was upgraded under British Rail (BR) following the introduction of the InterCity 125 or High Speed Train (HST) the World's Fastest Diesel Train. That train has been replaced by the Class 800. The station has been further upgraded with a new bridge with Lifts in 2012 during the Arriva Trains Wales/Trennau Arriva Cymru franchise by the Welsh Assembly. The Welsh Assembly is now the Senedd.
