Tensions spiked on October 4 when Honwada village residents in Vijaypura district were asked by the Tahsildar to respond to a proposal reallocating 1,500 acres of land to the Waqf Board. Concerned farmers sought BJP MP Tejasvi Surya’s intervention, leading to his harsh critique of the Siddaramaiah government and accusations of "minority appeasement" and allegedly "turning Karnataka into Pakistan." Surya’s comments drew a fierce response from Congress leaders, including Minority Minister Zameer Ahmed, who refuted BJP’s claims as political bait. Union Minister Pralhad Joshi also joined the fray, directly targeting Ahmed. Meanwhile, Karnataka Minister MB Patil assured farmers with valid documentation that they had nothing to fear. Similar land disputes involving the Waqf Board have surfaced in other states, including Kerala, Bihar, and Tamil Nadu, where the board has been accused of overreach.
