Events: This happened and the video was recorded on a Friday. It was too late to call Outback Motortek so I waited until Monday. I spoke with Outback Motortek on Monday and they apologized for the inconvenience and offered to send out a replacement bracket. I asked for a second bracket (to be prepared for another repeat) and they said yes with absolutely no hesitation. I received both brackets that same Thursday. Outback Motortek resolved the issue and had me back on my Tuareg in less than one week.
I'd like to mention a few additional things -
1. Outback Motortek is aware that this bracket is a common failure point. They previously attempted to resolve it by issuing a different spacer to be used with the bracket install. I already had this spacer on for both of my failed brackets, and I believe I am the first person to report that spacer not resolving this to Outback Motortek.
2. A complete bracket redesign is in the works.
3. As far as I'm aware, Outback Motortek has no knowledge of my YouTube channel or that I have been sharing (and will continue to share) the experiences I've had with my Tuareg and the components I've added to it. While I'm a small channel without a massive audience, I do believe that them being aware of me sharing this would have possibly influenced their treatment of this situation. To the best of my knowledge, they are entirely unaware this channel exists and that I would be sharing anything about this situation anywhere online. I think this is important to note because it means my experience with them should be exactly how they would treat (and have been treating) their other customers. My impression with OM has always been that they're a bunch of cool guys making cool stuff and doing cool things.
My Outback Motortek skid plate broke on an offroad ride earlier in the season. I figured this was my fault because I intentionally took a bad line knowing that I would risk an impact on the skid plate. One of the mounting brackets broke after the impact but the plate held on well enough for me to get off of the trail and back home. Outback Motortek handled the situation really well. They acknowledged that there was a known issue with the mounting bracket that broke and that they'd send me a new part that would fit differently. When I received the part, it looked exactly the same. I called to check on whether or not I received the correct item and they informed me that it looked the same but it was stronger.
This new bracket failed after a couple of offroad rides with no significant impacts. It snapped off (seemingly at random) during a road ride on the way to some trails. I do anticipate them handling the situation well and taking care of me and the plate, but I am now concerned for other tuareg owners with this skid plate setup. I was lucky enough to easily make it home with both failures, but I know other people may not be.
