Meet Fay - she has been the Macmillan information and support centre manager at Milton Keynes hospital for about six years now.
The centre is located in the Macmillan Haematology and Oncology Unit at Milton Keynes Hospital, opposite Ward 16.
The centre is open from Monday to Friday, 9.00am to 5.00pm. No appointment is necessary and you are welcome to drop in at any time during opening hours to browse through the library of resources. Fay and her team of volunteers provide audio, visual and printed information for people affected by cancer at any stage. Information is also available in Braille, for people with learning difficulties and for those whom English is not their first language.
Patients/carers are also able to email the service which can be useful for people who are hard of hearing or deaf.
1:1 support is available by appointment with an experienced cancer nurse. Supportive listening is also provided by a team of volunteers on a drop-in basis. Support can be provided through an interpreter if necessary.
Patients can also get help in applying for a Macmillan Grant to help towards the cost of cancer, such as travel costs for treatment, a wig or post-surgery clothing and heating costs. These grants are means tested.
