There are several videos on how to fix P0442, but I wanted to explain how to test your purge valve before you replace it. Throwing parts at a problem is unwise and a waste of time and money. One of the most common causes of trouble code P0442 [Evaporative Emission System Leak Detected (small leak)] is the purge valve. This video is a discussion on the EVAP system’s purge valve. Other causes can be the vent valve (used during your EVAP system’s test), a cracked or broken EVAP line, or even your gas cap.
