An emotional plea resonated through the state capitol as parents who lost their daughters in the Camp Mystic flood disaster urged lawmakers to enact safety reforms.
This marked the first public appearance of the families since the tragedy, with many parents, including mothers who once attended Camp Mystic, sharing their heart-wrenching testimonies.
Lawmakers nearly unanimously voted to pass all three bills, including House Bill 1, the "Youth CAMPER Act". The bill would require youth camps to develop an annual emergency action plan and share it with the state for approval.
