With the upcoming release of the latest film in the Exorcist franchise The Exorcist Believer coming out in the UK this month. I wanted to try something new for the channel and talk about a movie in a spoiler free review about a cult favourite that I’ve always felt deserves a lot more attention, its a work that is also one of my favourite movies of all time.
Director William Friedkin’s The Exorcist released in 1973 is considered by many to be one of the finest if the not the finest horror movies ever made. The movie was a smash hit and elements of it remain in the public zeitgeist to this day and after its success its director had carte blanche to do what ever he wanted for his next project. Not only was director William Friedkin given this opportunity but so was the novelist and screenwriter of The Exorcist William Peter Blatty.
This short episode we look at director and writer William Peter Blatty’s strange, unique and staggeringly beautiful addition to The Exorcist universe ‘The Ninth Configuration’.
