Automatically segmenting narrative text into scenes is a complex task that remains relatively under explored. Scenes form fundamental structural units within narratives, marking shifts in time, location, and character interactions. We introduce a supervised learning approach to scene segmentation, using SceneML, an annotation framework for narrative text. We evaluate multiple models, including BERT-based classifiers and Conditional Random Fields (CRF), treating scene segmentation as a sentence classification and sequence labeling task.
