This is an AU story, based on the possibility that the Federation/Klingon Alliance failed during Operation Return - their attack on DS9 in an attempt to prevent the Dominion from disabling the minefield blocking the Bajoran Wormhole. This story explores the effect such a defeat would have on the Federation, which is now faced with imminent military collapse.
