Everybody loves Dracula! The Count has been adapted almost as many times as Sherlock Holmes, and in as many different styles. Christopher Lee, Bela Lugosi, Gary Oldman, Frank Langella, Leslie Nielsen, Morgan Freeman and even Adam Sandler have lent their talents to the role of the king of the vampires, and now we have a new legend to add to their ranks. Yes, it’s the fanatical star of Face/Off, the unbearably talented lead of The Unbearable Weight Of Massive Talent, it’s NICOLAS FREAKING CAGE!

OK, technically he’s a supporting character and the movie is about his manservant and Igor type familiar Renfield, played by Nicholas Hoult. But let’s be honest, everybody is showing up to see exactly what kind of crazy out there take on the undead legend we’re going to get from the guy who once screamed THE BEES! THE BEES!

The movie also stars Awkwafina, who was great in Shang-Chi, and is also great here.

As you would expect from a movie that exists in the shadows of Francis Ford Coppola, Hammer Horror and other assorted legends of cinema, Renfield is very aware of its place in history, and it’s full of little easter eggs, callbacks, references and details. Things you missed, you might say. And we’re here to point at those things and tell you exactly what they mean.

So get up out of that coffin, pour a glass of blood with some eyeballs floating in it, and let’s get stuck into this nightmare.
