Retired Air Force Lt. Gen. Dan “Razin” Caine testified Tuesday that he was never asked whom he voted for in the 2020 or 2024 elections when he was being considered for the role of Joint Chiefs chairman.
Sen. Jack Reed, D-R.I., ranking member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, quizzed the nominee about reports that President Donald Trump had said that Caine had declared his love and loyalty for Trump and that he put on a “Make America Great Again” hat.
Caine said in his confirmation hearing that he believed Trump was talking about someone else and that he had never worn any political merchandise.
Caine affirmed to Reed that he believes it’s important to keep the U.S. military apolitical, and that those efforts start “with being a good example from the top and making sure that we are nonpartisan and apolitical and speaking the truth to power.”
