Henrik's playground: planing Myford beds

I drove over to my buddy Henrik's (work)place in Sweden where he has his Powell planer for the purpose of borrowing this to do 3 Myford beds. I had laid out the plan ahead , but was still curious to see how this turned out. As I have earlier shown both scraping these machines as well as having them ground, I thought it would be nice to find out and show what the planer could do. Long story short, it turned out better than I hoped, really nice! You can do very accurate work, within 1/100mm (4 tenths if we use imperial) for the length of these surfaces (apprx. 1000mm). Actually, the bed stroke length on this machine is over 1800mm hence you can do bigger lathes also.
A planed bed will have a nice surface, although not polished like a ground, but these still really only needed some stoning to be used directly. However, I have also scraped the top surfaces. I am very pleased with the result and can recommend this method, although old fashioned, still works well.
PS! This was quite a long session, but really went fast when you one just got setup and started. The slow pace of the machine isn't really holding you back in any way.
I had a couple of "brain-farts", mistakingly mixing up the vertical- and horisontal feeds, but it was luckily under the headstock :) I also forgot to do the spring pass on 2 of the hold doown surfaces, but apart from this all went as planned.
