The reason for that is because the breakup was a decision for your ex which put them in control of the situation.

Your ex felt that they were able to dictate what would happen because they were the one who informed you of what was going to happen.

You, on the other hand, felt helpless and at the mercy of your ex. In this way, the two of you were on polar opposites in terms of the feelings of power and control.

The person being dumped felt at the mercy of the one initiating the breakup. That is the reason that so many people who have been dumped tend to beg. They are basically begging for mercy because they feel they have no power or influence over the situation.
