Chaturanga is very similar to the plank exercise. This helps improve core strength, posture, and stability by targeting the erector spinae muscles on either side of your spine.
This can be a challenging yoga pose, especially for beginners. It requires proper body alignment, coordination, and A LOT of strength.
The exact origin of Chaturanga is unknown has been speculated centuries. The Sanskrit word "Chaturanga" means 'four-limbed' or 'four arms', referring to ancient army divisions of infantry, cavalry, elephantry, and chariotry.
Fascinating because similar to the ancient army definition of the word, holding this pose is much like a Battle or a War. A War between you and your stability. Your limbs are fighting to work together, and support the weight of your body, to hold yourself steady and strong.
