Tips & Tricks for deck framing. I like using blocking to keep joists on layout. I still mark layout on the girder, but don't nail all the joists on layout, I use the blocks to do this-saving time. We are going to use the required hardware to connect the #PWTTreated LVL joist to the girder. This also avoids puncturing the tape. The white in my Pica makes it easy to see. Look closely at how all the #PWTTreated LVL joists are exactly the same dimensions. This directly translates into decking laying nice and flat. Since we are outside, I'm using hot-dipped galvanized nails to fasten the Treated LVL to blocking.
