These 15 NEW Features Are Coming in Major Animal Crossing: New Horizons Version 3.0 Update

The unexpected is happening: A major update is coming to Animal Crossing: New Horizons, four years after Nintendo released the ‘final’ 2.0 update!

Launching on January 15th, 2026, the Version 3.0 update will be free and packed with new features for all players on both the original Nintendo Switch and the Nintendo Switch 2.

In addition to the free update, a paid Nintendo Switch 2 Edition upgrade pack will be available at the same time, offering exclusive features for the new system like 4K graphics and mouse controls.

Kapp’n’s Resort Hotel Opens

The highlight of Version 3.0 is the new Resort Hotel operated by Kapp’n! This new facility is attached to the island dock where Kapp’n currently offers island boat tours.

Inside the hotel, you’ll find Kapp’n’s family helping out, including a store in the top right selling items, mannequins for dress-up in the bottom right, and a desk in the top left to assist with decorating guest rooms.

Decorate Hotel Rooms For Guests

At Kapp’n’s Resort Hotel, you can decorate guest rooms to match requested themes like the Seaside Room. Use new themed furniture along with your existing collection to design the room as requested and earn a new currency called Hotel Tickets.

For example, decorating the Seaside Room for a villager rewards you with 200 Hotel Tickets.

This feature looks exciting, though it initially feels a bit similar to the Happy Home Paradise DLC. Perhaps there’s more depth to this addition than meets the eye!

Craft DIY Island Goods For Tom Nook

Another way to earn Hotel Tickets involves crafting DIY island goods for Tom Nook.
