This week, we had to dive into the old shop to tackle a massive hydraulic leak on our trusty John Deere 555G crawler loader. One of the 4-in-1 bucket cylinders was leaving a trail everywhere it went, so we had to get it fixed before we could finish the site work around the new helicopter hangar.
We walk you through the entire process of rebuilding a hydraulic cylinder, from using the 1" drive impact to break the gland nut loose, to taking apart the piston and installing a new seal kit from John Deere. We even break out some old-school tools and techniques to get the job done right.
Once the 555G was back in action, we got to the fun part: moving dirt and spreading tons of gravel to finish the new concrete approach for the helicopter hangar.
