Restoring an old super rusty backsaw

I restored my Grandads old Backsaw. My Grandad gave us some of his old tools. They were old and really rusty. We wanted to give them a new lease of life!

We restored this tool so it looks like new! It really is an awesome restoration.

Restoration Process:
It's a good idea to brush down each part of the saw once taken apart. I use a wire brush to get rid of the surface rust. To remove the more stubborn rust, i used a solution of White Vinegar and Salt. Much better for the environment than rust removers. Once this has been left for a while, sanding down the metal blade will restore the shine. When it comes to the wooden handle, it's a simple case of using sandpaper to bring the wood back to its original colour. I then used some Woodstain and Matte varnish to protect the handle. Once complete, we put the saw back together and enjoy using our 'like new' backsaw!
