Here is a short tutorial on how to properly do a duck dive. Obviously, there is more than one way to do a duck dive, but in this short video we cover a few important points to do the duck dive that will result in less effort, a quiet entry, and gentle and efficient start to your dive.
A good duck dive should be effortless (minimal oxygen consumption), quiet (no kicking or splashing fins at the top) and stealthy.
If you are going to practice this dive, perfect the dive using a wetsuit and do not use any weights. This will ensure correct form without the aid of weights.
Here are some pointers:
1) Commit to it.
2) Head position.
3) Get vertical.
4) Don't look down.
5) Get leg separation.
