I Recreated the First Reverse Superstrat - Michael Hampton and the P-Funk "Earth Tour Strat"

Most of my other videos have been about bass, but this one is a bit of a changeup. This is about my favorite GUITAR of all time, the 1976 "Earth Tour Strat", played by Michael Hampton of Parliament/Funkadelic.
As far as anyone knows, it holds the distinction of being the first reverse-headstock / reverse-neck guitar in a major band, and possibly the first "Superstrat" (depending on your criteria) in a major band. It might also be the first Strat with 3 humbuckers.

I recently finished building a replica of it, so thought I would make this tribute to the Earth Tour Strat, Mike Hampton, and P-Funk itself to let you all know about this surprisingly "historic" guitar.

I ran out of time to go into detail on WHY a reverse headstock has any advantages over a "stock" Strat-style headstock. The answer is that it's a bit easier to bend the high strings. When the tuner is closer to the nut, it doesn't change the overall string tension, but it does provide better string compliance, which means less resistance when you're bending a string. And since most bends are on the higher strings, it actually makes a lot of sense to flip the headstock the opposite way.
Plus, honestly, I always feel kind of goofy the way I need to reach over to tune regular Strats. Tuning a reverse headstock is actually a lot more natural!
